MGA Biology Student Wins Research Award

Biology major, Zoe Von Holten was awarded a 2023 Bernard Fried Student Research Grant from the Helminthological Society of Washington (HelmSoc) to support her independent research exploring pathogenic parasites of fishes. HelmSoc is one of the oldest parasitological research societies in North America (founded in 1910). In addition to getting funds for research, HelmSoc will provide her with a travel grant to present at the national (/international) annual meeting of the American Society of Parasitologists and cover page charges for her first-authored paper based on this research. Zoe has been conducting undergraduate research under the direction of Dr. Tyler Achatz, Assistant Professor of Biology in Macon.
