Sorority Life Update & Survey

The following update was sent to all MGA students on Oct. 26, 2023, from MGA's Director of Student Engagement, Dr. Corey Guyton:

Hello MGA Knights,

I wanted to give you all an update on our efforts to expand sororities to our University. We have hired Ms. Devereaux Lindsey as our new Assistant Director for Greek Life and Community Service, and she will begin the process of working to build our sorority life.

We wanted to let you know about a few steps we have already taken. We have been in communication with multiple organizations, and we are slowly making progress. Specifically, we have had verbal discussions with Alpha Kappa Alpha and Zeta Phi Beta. Both organizations have shown interest in possibly expanding to our campus, but they have a lot of steps they must take on their end before they can make a final decision. We have been actively working with the NPC, which oversees 26 sororities, and they are guiding us through their process with the hopes of pairing us with a sorority that best fits our institution (hopefully a pairing in Spring 2024). Sigma Gamma Rho has stated that they will be in contact in the next few weeks to discuss the possibility of expanding. Finally, Delta Sigma Theta put us on a list they have with interested schools, and they stated they will contact us as they go through their list.

This is where I need your help. The organizations make their decisions about expansion based on a lot of factors. One of their biggest concerns is sustaining a chapter for years and maintaining a qualified membership base. We sent a survey in the Spring to gather information about your interest in sorority life, and we were asked by the sororities to resend the survey to gather additional information. I really need for you all to complete the following survey so that we can present factual data to the organizations so they can make an informed decision about whether or not they wish to start a chapter at MGA.
