The Macon Campus Library and the English Studies Organization (ESO) want to help with Knights' Spiritual Wellness, which often involves disconnecting from external noise and reconnecting with one's inner voice.
Concept
Spiritual wellness often involves disconnecting from external noise and reconnecting with one's inner voice. This activity provides a structured time and space to disengage from technology.
Activity
Set up a quiet zone in the library or a multipurpose room. When students enter, they are encouraged to "park" their phones in a designated, supervised area or basket for the duration of the activity (e.g., 45 minutes).
The Librarian's Role
Provide various simple journaling supplies (nice paper, colorful pens, high-quality journals). Offer a list of "Spiritual Prompts" that encourage gratitude, connection, and future envisioning (e.g., "Write a letter to your past self about your current journey," or "List 5 things in your life right now that feel whole"). Play calming, ambient music.
Takeaway
A dedicated, technology-free space fosters presence and provides a practical tool (journaling) for ongoing spiritual reflection.
