Please join me in congratulating Pedro Vega with his recent promotion to Sergeant for the Cochran Precinct of MGA Police Department. Sergeant Vega was born in Camaguey Cuba and came to the United States at a very young age. He began his career in public service as a Firefighter and E.M.T. He later became a Paramedic and ultimately received certification as a police officer. Sgt. Vega was raised in Atlanta, Georgia and attended Henry Grady High School. He holds three higher education degrees including an Associates in Science degree in general studies, a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with major in Management and finally a Masters degree in Education specializing in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. Sgt. Vega is a native speaker in Spanish and currently resides in Hawkinsville, Georgia with his thirteen-year-old daughter, Lauren.
Sgt. Vega brings a wealth of experience having been in law enforcement for 30 years in many different capacities. He was the first Spanish speaking Officer for the DeKalb County Police Department. He also served with the Georgia State Patrol as a Trooper First Class in North Georgia. He later worked as an Officer with the Gwinnett County School Police where he had general law enforcement responsibilities, was training coordinator and lead presenter for teaching students about general safety and social media safety. Prior to coming to Middle Georgia State University, Sgt. Vega was an Investigator for Georgia (P.O.S.T.) Peace Officers Standards and Training. He is grateful for the opportunity to work at Middle Georgia State University and hopes to be able to contribute and assist the Middle Georgia State University community through his new position.
