In Memoriam: Dr. David A. Bell
Dear Members of the Middle Georgia State University community:
I am deeply saddened to inform you of the passing earlier today of Dr. David A. Bell, former President of Macon State College from 1997 to 2011. After his retirement as President, David continued serving Macon State until 2013 as a Professor of Philosophy. President Bell was a giant on whose shoulders we now stand, and Middle Georgia State University owes an inestimable debt of gratitude to him for his vision, dedication and leadership. His legacy leaves us much to be proud of and he will be sorely missed by those who had the privilege to know and work with him.
To honor his life and work, and in concert with the wishes of President Bell’s family, the University is hosting a Celebration of Life reception this Wednesday 19th September from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the Robert F. Hatcher, Sr. Conference Center on the Macon campus. This reception is open to all members of the University and Foundation community. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be made to the Middle Georgia State University Foundation.
Please join me in extending prayerful condolences to President David A. Bell’s widow, Lynn, and to his other family members, and please join me in honoring them this Wednesday afternoon in welcoming them back to campus to celebrate President Bell’s life and work.
Christopher Blake, Ph.D.
