Over Spring Break, Dr. Lacey Wallace and two nursing students, Callie Wilson and Walden Brown, traveled to Subirana, Honduras on a mission trip with the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission. The group included volunteers from Perry, Brunswick and translators from UMVIM.
While in Subirana, Wallace, Wilson and Brown were able to visit a local clinic for a day, and assisted with triaging the patients, doing assessments and providing education to young women. They provided education on hand-washing, spreading germs and brushing teeth to over 500 local Honduran children through the elementary school.
They were also able to provide fluoride treatments to over 100 children. The group also hosted VBS at a school and local church, delivered supplies to 30 needy families and soaked up the beautiful Honduran culture.
The group was able to provide some much- needed supplies to the clinic, including a scale, and hope to return in the future!
