Important Changes to MGA Out of State Tuition Waivers for 2015-2016

The webpage and forms for MGA’s Out of State Tuition Waivers for the 2015-2016 has been updated so please reference the new forms on this site:

For the 2015-2016 academic year, there are some significant changes to two of the out of state tuition waivers that all should be aware of as we begin to enroll students for the 2015-2016 academic year.

1. The Recently Separated Military Waiver now can apply to individuals (and their spouses/dependents) who have separated from the military within 36 months (previously was 12 months) and move to Georgia to make this their permanent home and they wish to attend school while gaining Georgia Residency.
2. The former International and Superior Out of State Waiver is now called a Presidential Waiver and the following is the criteria MGA submitted to the President and the USG for how we will use this waiver effective fall 2015:

In response to changes to BOR Policy, Out of State Tuition Waivers, effective Fall 2015, Middle Georgia State has established the following criteria for its Presidential Waivers:
1. Academic and International
a. Beginning freshman students and GAMES students must have a minimum Freshmen Index of 2500.
b. A transfer student with 1-29 transferable credit hours must meet a minimum Freshmen Index of 2500 and a 3.00 college grade point average.
c. A transfer student with 30 or more transferable credit hours must have a 3.00 college grade point average.
d. A student granted a waiver will be required to maintain a 2.50 cumulative grade point average to be considered for a waiver renewal for subsequent academic years.

2. Athletic
a. The College will allow no more than 1/3 of its allowable waivers to be designated for students who are athletes (e.g., no more than 43 waivers 2015-2016 academic year).
b. Athletes will be required to maintain NAIA and Institutional academic standards to be considered for a waiver renewal for the next academic year.
c. All athletic waivers must first be approved by the Director of Athletics before being sent to the Vice President for Enrollment Management.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE CAN NOT MAKE EXCEPTIONS TO THESE RULES for any waivers to new students we grant starting fall 2015 so if a new student does not meet the academic/international criteria do not have them complete this form or ask me for an exception. A major change is that this waiver cannot be used to automatically grant a waiver to a Post 9/11 GI benefits student so those individuals will have to either use one of the approved military waivers or pay out of state. For any current student who remains continuously enrolled, we will grandfather them in if their academic record shows that they have maintained the criteria established on the original waiver to assist in getting students to graduate.

We are limited on the number of Presidential Waivers we can grant each year (i.e., 132 total for 2016-2016) so Athletics has been assigned their allotment and then I will be sending the Presidential Waiver form to the Deans and Program Chairs so that they can use this option to recruit out of state or International students into their academic programs.

Let me know if you have any questions!
