Highlights of the weekend include MGA’s Nishanth Rebello (Jr. – India) taking down Lander #1 Marc Hofer (national individual rank #30) 6-3, 6-2. Octavio Tamola (Soph. – Argentina) defeated GCSU’s Kyle Kinsler, Masao Perret (Fr.-Switzerland) cruised against GCSU’s Nathan Connelly and rounding out singles win for the men on day 1 was Leandro Otero (Fr.-Argentina) winning against Lander’s Luis Salcedo.
The MGA women would not be outdone, though. Nathalie Wenko (Soph-Austria), Jacqueline Herr (Soph.-Germany), Yannick Garcia (Sr.-Brazil) and Laura Cocoma (Soph. – Colombia) all picked up wins on day one.
For the remainder of the tournament MGA picked up eleven more match wins to go give MGA a total of 24 wins for the weekend.
Coach Tom Bates said “Our student-athletes work extremely hard in the classroom and on the tennis courts. The women have a 3.32 team GPA and the men are just below a 3.0 team GPA. For us to be able to compete against two top 10 ranked NCAA D2 programs is a real accomplishment!”
