Middle Georgia State University Students Have an Opportunity to Win Big By Playing GeoCache for College Cash

April – Financial Literacy Month

In conjunction with Money Smart Week®, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and its partner organizations, Middle Georgia State University will host the 2017 GeoCache for College Cash event on each campus during the month of April 2017.

The campus event uses mobile technology to transform the teaching of financial education. Geocaching has become a popular group scavenger hunt activity across the globe. Money Smart Week® partners have adopted the concept as a fun activity for teaching financial literacy to students on college campuses. Thus, the GeoCache for College Cash campus event!

Students locate seven posters displayed on campus.  Each poster informs them of one of 7 important money management skills specifically targeted to college students. Topics range from understanding paychecks and student loans, to important information on debit cards and identity theft.

After students read the educational information provided on the posters, they scan a QR code to find quiz questions pertaining to the topics on each poster. For each correct answer, participants receive points toward the contest.

“During the GeoCache for College Cash event we have lots of prizes for student participants” explains Tony Piper, Financial Aid Operations Manager. “Participants will be entered into a drawing for $25.00 gift cards to MGA’s bookstores, compliments of MGA’s Office of Finance and Operations,” stated Piper. 1 student winner will be selected for each of our 5 campuses. Financial Aid will have tables set up on each campus at the following times to assists students with the scavenger hunt, provide financial literacy information and promote the contest.
