Torch Tournament Fun and Opportunities

Torch Tournament Faculty/Staff v. Students/Alumni Flag Football Friday a Success

Nearly 50 people, including President Blake, turned out for MGA’s first-ever Flag Football Friday on Friday, February 23. Dubbed the Torch Tournament, the fundraiser in support of the President’s Torch Society’s first Spring Break service learning trip to Washington, DC took place in the field in the center of the track on the Macon Campus.

Right before sunset on an unseasonably warm evening, the faculty/staff team held on to their first half lead and defeated the students 29-26. The students have pledged a rematch in the Fall!

Following the game, the group enjoyed food and fellowship and held a prize drawing for donors who supported the event. All told, the event raised nearly $1450 to support the students’ travel to our nation’s capital.

Over four days (March 11-14), they will meet with fellow college students at American University, spend a day volunteering with Communities in Schools and Martha’s Table in one of DC’s elementary schools, visit monuments and museums, tour the Capitol and meet with several of Middle Georgia’s elected representatives in the US Congress.
