OER Research Fellows 2020-21 Opportunity

Dear colleagues,

The Open Education Group – http://openedgroup.org – is in the process of identifying early career researchers and/or qualified Masters/PhD candidates in the United States and Canada for a fellowship to research topics related to Open Educational Resources (OER). Successful candidates will publish papers relating to the educational outcomes that take place when OER and/or open pedagogy are substituted for traditional learning materials and approaches. OER Research Fellows will receive funding to attend two conferences, one of which will be the Open Education Conference November 9-11 in Denver, CO. The second conference will be the 2021 Open Education conference (date and place to be determined). In addition, Research Fellows will receive mentoring in OER research and guidance in identifying, researching, and writing specific OER projects. Small stipends will be made available to OER Research Fellows who successfully complete the program; the overall funding support for Fellows will be approximately $5,000 (including conference costs and stipend). The total amount may vary depending on whether the conferences are held online or in person.

The application deadline is July 11, 2020. Apply online at https://byu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_dj5ITUWTogyKvhr.

This was a rewarding opportunity when I participated several years ago, leading to a publication that turned out to be the most downloaded article in The Journal of Political Science Education for 2018-19; I’d encourage anyone eligible with an interest in OERs, particularly the evaluation and assessment of their effectiveness, to apply. In particular, this fellowship may be a good complement or follow-on to an ALG project.

Please feel free to pass this information along to anyone in your schools/departments, or those at other institutions, who may find it of interest.

Best,

Chris —
