Nursing Faculty and Graduates Travel to Honduras

From Dr. Lacey Wallace:

5 recent nursing graduates and myself travelled to Subirana, Honduras for a week long mission trip with United Methodist Volunteers in Mission. During the week, we set up a medical clinic, and working alongside a Honduran doctor and pharmacist, saw over 400 patients. The area has not had a doctor in over 8 years, and the clinic in the area is currently closed. Subirana has been affected by Covid, but also a Hurricane las October, when the area was cut off from any travel or supplies and without electricity for over 30 days. The need for food, supplies and medical care is great. The trip was originally scheduled for last March, but had to be postponed due to Covid. We helped to set up and triage the patients, organize the medications, set up a glasses clinic, and assisted with an emergency. When not in the clinic, we helped hand out much needed bags of food and supplies to local residents and provided a VBS for local children. Other team members helped with construction on the church and parsonage where the team stayed.

All team members were vaccinated prior to travel and tested negative for Covid before returning to US.
