Middle Georgia State University will be hosting a virtual visit from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) on October 18, 19, and 20, 2021.
MGA was elevated to a Level V institution in December of 2020 to offer a Doctor of Science in Information Technology. During this visit, the committee will meet with President Blake and his Cabinet, Dr. Jenks and members of the Provost’s Office, Ms. Stroud and her staff, and numerous other offices across the university involved in student and faculty support. They will meet with many administrators and faculty in Dr. Koohang’s School of Computing, especially those involved in graduate education. We expect them to meet with students in the new DSIT program as well.
The visit marks an important milestone for the University. In anticipation of a successful visit, which will be communicated by SACSCOC in July of 2022, MGA will be able to develop and propose one or two additional doctoral degrees, if approved by the USG. Students, faculty, and staff should know as well that we are launching a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy in the fall of 2022, pending successful candidacy by ACOTE, and we are hoping for approval by SACSCOC of the new Master of Arts in Public Relations, which we will know about in early December. These degrees have been developed by the School of Health and Natural Sciences and by the School of Arts and Letters, respectively.
