Raven Pittman, an MGA senior, attended and participated in the 24th Annual Southeast Model African Union (SEMAU) Conference held November 3-6 at Georgia College & State University, Milledgeville. She was accompanied to the conference by her two faculty advisors: Dr. Peter B. Makaya and Dr. Mary Mears. Pittman won four awards, including the Most Outstanding Delegate Award. The Award is given to “an individual delegate who has, over the course of the conference, contributed the most substantively, and facilitated a collegial, collaborative, and consensus-building and result-oriented process while maintaining the diplomatic character of his/her country.” Pittman represented the African country of Tanzania at the Conference.
Dr. Makaya served as the faculty advisor for SEMAU’s Committee on Democracy, Governance & Human Rights. Dr. Mary Mears, who is the Chair of the University System (of GA) Africa Council (USAC), was the general chair of the Conference and also served as Faculty Advisor for SEMAU’s Committee on Social Matters.
