MGA
Recreation & Wellness was represented by a team and a game official at the recent regional basketball tournament hosted by Georgia Southern University and sponsored by the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association.
MGA's team started the tournament with a tough loss against one of several Georgia Southern teams. They bounced back with a last-second buzzer-beater the next day Florida State’s club team. The win put MGA into the championship bracket, where they played later on that afternoon, losing a tight game with .8 seconds left on the clock.
Just like the teams competing to advance in the bracket, game officials were trying to do the same and progress further in bracket play. MGA’s representative official, Titus Matthews, did well all weekend, receiving high praise from all the clinicians. As a result of his quality work, Matthews was awarded a chance to officiate the men’s championship game. His performance earned Matthews All-Tournament Official honors. He will now join officials and clinicians from institutions around the nation to officiate at the NIRSA National Basketball Tournament on April 8-10 in Wichita, KS.
