The latest issue of the academic journal "PS: Political Science & Politics," which is published by Cambridge University Press, includes an article by Dr. Annie Watson, MGA assistant professor of political science, about a simulation exercise she designed to help students examine the use of torture in counterterrorism interrogations through 50-minute gameplay. The article is titled “Tick, Tick, Boom: Simulating Human Rights Decisions in the Classroom.”
Watson's research addresses questions related to the causes and effects of the ratification of international human rights treaties and their incorporation into domestic law, using advanced statistical methods such as text analysis and Bayesian latent variables that are still relatively new to political science.
