MGA, Macon-Bibb Host Veterans Day Ceremony At Coleman Hill

For the seventh consecutive year, Middle Georgia State University (MGA) and Macon-Bibb co-hosted a Veterans Day ceremony at Coleman Hill in downtown Macon.

The event was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11. In addition to honoring all veterans, participants remembered the sacrifices of those made by the 151st Machine Gun Battalion, 42nd Rainbow Division, members of which lost their lives during World War I. The ceremony took place at the Coleman Hill monument established in memory of those battalion members located at 285 Spring Street.

Students from the Westside High School Air Force JROTC conducted the Posting of the Colors. MGA President Dr. Christopher Blake made brief remarks, joined in the Laying of the Wreath with Macon-Bibb Mayor Lester Miller, and presented challenge coins to veterans who attended the event.

Dr. William Carty, retired Army colonel and assistant professor for MGA’s School of Business, led the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

Ike Taylor, campus services coordinator and military student specialist at MGA, led the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer. Ommarsharie Huston, a junior at MGA, sang the hymn, “Amazing Grace.”
