The Diversity Committee invites nominations for Middle Georgia State University’s inaugural Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Award. This award recognizes a staff or faculty member who has demonstrated a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity at the university and/or in the community.
Eligibility for NominationA faculty or staff member nominated for this award must:
- Have taught or been employed for at least 3 semesters at Middle Georgia State University.
Additionally, a faculty or staff member may not be nominated if they:
- Received the Diversity Award in the previous 5 years;
- Are a current member of the Diversity Council.
Criteria for NominationThe faculty or staff member nominated must have demonstrated a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity opportunities or activities that directly improves Middle Georgia State University campuses and/or its surrounding communities. To be considered for the award, the nominee must meet
three of the following criteria:
- Holding a leadership position in an organization that fosters diversity, inclusion, and equity.
- Participation in a minimum of five programs linked to diversity, inclusion, and equity at the institutional, USG, state, community, or national level.
- Planning, organizing, and executing a minimum of three activities at the institutional or community level which foster diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Membership in a recognized organization at the state or national level that deals with diversity, inclusion, and equity.
- Presentation on diversity, inclusion, and equity at the community, state or national level.
- Publication(s) on issues related to diversity, inclusion, and equity in peer-reviewed journals at the state or national level.
- Mentoring and/or fostering relationships with students in an effort to further diversity, equity and inclusion on campus and/or the community.
- Incorporating diversity, inclusion, and equity in pedagogical techniques/curriculum.
- Participating in or creating/hosting events which foster diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus, or in our community.
- Plays an active role by volunteering, organizing, or leading a student organization that fosters diversity and inclusion.
Nominations
Candidates for this award may be nominated by students, alumni, staff, fellow faculty, the chair of a department, or the dean of a school. A candidate may nominate themselves, but must obtain an additional letter of support from one of the above-mentioned people.
Nomination Procedure
- Materials needed:
- A letter of nomination that is no less than 1 page and no more than 3 pages long; emphasize how and why the candidate fulfills the criteria outlined above; be signed.
- A current CV
- Any other material supporting evidence of the candidate’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- If the candidate is nominating oneself, an additional letter of support must be submitted satisfying the criteria below. The letter should:
- Be no less than 1 page and no more than 3 pages long;
- Emphasize how and why the candidate fulfills the criteria outlined above;
- Be signed or come from the letter writer’s MGA email account. A PDF document is preferred when possible.
