Call for Proposals: 2024 Student Leadership Conference

The Center for Career & Leadership Development is starting to ramp up planning for the 2024 Student Leadership Conference, which will take place on Mar. 7, 2024.

The Middle Georgia State University Student Leadership Conference is one of the main components of the University’s leadership development offerings. Because leadership is a critical component of a student’s professional development, all Student Leadership Programs, including the conference, will be developed and implemented with the following guiding principles in mind:

• All students have the capacity to demonstrate leadership
• Leadership is purposeful and collaborative
• Leadership is service and civic engagement
• Leadership concepts are explored across all academic disciplines and can be learned through curricular and co-curricular experiences
• Leadership is a process that leads to social change

The 2024 Student Leadership Conference will have two interdependent themes: the identification of leadership styles and the development of a leadership philosophy. The goals of the conference will be to help students:

• Identify what leadership style they naturally gravitate towards.
• Understand how and why leadership styles may have to be adapted to effectively handle different situations and teams.
• Utilize the knowledge they have acquired about their personal leadership style to develop a working leadership philosophy.

To address this focus, proposed sessions should address one or more of the following learning outcomes:

      By the end of the conference, attendees will be able to:

• Utilize assessment data to identify their preferred leadership style.
• Articulate a leadership philosophy based on their preferred leadership style.
• Demonstrate an understanding of how their leadership style influences their leadership philosophy.
• Explain how and why they may need to adapt their leadership style to changing circumstances.

The proposal form should be completed no later than November 30, 2023. Selected students will be notified by January 26, 2024.
