It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Victoria (Vicki) Guarisco, professor in the Department of Natural Sciences. Our beloved friend and co-worker passed away on Wednesday, February 28. The MGA flag will be flown on all campuses for one week in memory of Dr. Guarisco, who was employed at MGA for over 15 years.
Dr. Guarisco began her career at Macon State College on August 1, 2008, as an associate professor of chemistry in the School of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Dawn Sherry shared the following remarks about Dr. Guarisco:
“Last year, she was the deserving recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award for full-time faculty. Many of us saw how much time and energy she devoted to her students. She was known for spending hours helping them to understand how to solve chemistry problems or difficult concepts. She assisted with the Science Olympiad, served on or chaired numerous committees, and volunteered regularly to help with departmental events. Vicki would often bring fresh fruit from her garden, gifts or baked goods for folks in the department, and would help someone who needed assistance without even being asked. She was the first to volunteer when folks needed help in their lives beyond MGA. She was a force to be reckoned with and she will be deeply missed by all.”
Maya Angelou stated, “if you’re going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can’t be erased.” Dr. Victoria Guarisco’s legacy will forever be remembered by her colleagues and students.
Memorial and funeral services were held on Monday, March 4. Sympathies can still be expressed online here.
Please keep the family, co-workers, and friends of Dr. Guarisco in your thoughts and prayers during this time of bereavement.
