On April 16, MGA’s Department of Psychology and Criminal Justice, in partnership with the Crisis Line and Safe House of Central Georgia, invited students and community members to join them on the Macon Campus to participate in the Clothesline Project T-shirt creation event to bring awareness to domestic violence and sexual assault. On April 23, participants returned to the campus to display the shirts and provide information and resources about these issues.
41NBC provided coverage of the Macon Campus Clothesline Project T-shirt display.
“'Today we’re hosting a Clothesline Project, which is an event that was started in Massachusetts to help represent the victims of domestic violence for military households, and it’s spread all over the United States,' [said Dr. Elaina Behounek, assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice]. 'Lots of different campuses and other organizations host the event throughout the U.S. to raise awareness about different types of domestic violence and sexual assault that occur.'
Behounek wants people to know they are not alone, and there are various resources available for victims and survivors."
