In Memoriam: Brian J. White

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of former MGA student Brian Jason White on August 12, 2024.

Brian Jason White

Brian first attended MGA in the summer of 2013 and last attended in the summer of 2017, having completed his Bachelor of Science degree in biology. After graduating from MGA, Brian obtained his Master of Science degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Brian was a member of the President's Torch Society, the MGA Honors Program, and a Student Government Association (SGA) representative for the Cochran and Dublin campuses. Brian was featured in the University's Finding Greatness series and in "Brian's story" featured on MGA's YouTube channel.

Dr. Dawn Sherry, professor of biology and chair of the Department of Natural Sciences, expressed sympathies on behalf of the Department, sharing details of Brian's lasting impact on the University.

"The Department of Natural Sciences faculty and alumni will be deeply saddened to hear this news. Brian was an inspiration to his peers and the faculty in our Department. He had a clear vision of his career goals as a student in the Biology program and we were so proud of his work when he went on to receive his Master of Science degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics at Georgia Tech. It is no surprise that he dedicated his career and personal time to serving and advocating for those suffering limb loss. He provided a tremendous source of care and support to his patients and had unique insights, given his personal experiences. He will be missed by many, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of the people who had the pleasure of interacting with him."

Services were held at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home on Thursday, August 15. Sympathies can still be expressed online.

A condolence letter will be sent to Brian's family from the President’s Office. The MGA community extends our condolences to Brian's family and friends.
