It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Giuliano Graniti, assistant professor of music at MGA. He was an accomplished pianist, educator, and scholar with an extensive performance history, regularly giving recitals in prestigious international concert halls across Europe, Asia, and the United States. Dr. Graniti’s performances and scholarly work aimed to bring attention to the rich and cultural significance of Native American composers.
Dr. Rebecca Lanning describes Dr. Graniti as a colleague and friend. She states, "if there was a single word to describe him it would be 'fervor.' He approached music, teaching, his devotion to his wife, family, friends and students with fervor. He was all in. To the hilt. Pedal to the metal. Full throttle. An amazing person."
Dr. Graniti served the music program with passion and excellence.
The MGA flag will be flown on all campuses for one week in memory of Dr. Graniti, who joined MGA August 15, 2022. The flag will then be delivered to his family.
A memorial celebrating Dr. Graniti’s life is being planned and will be shared once the arrangements are complete.
We extend our sincere condolences to Dr. Graniti’s wife, Paniz Shafaei, parents, colleagues, and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
