Teri Miller, chair for MGA's Department of Respiratory Therapy and Health Sciences, serves at chair for the American Association for Respiratory Care’s (AARC) Workforce Recovery Taskforce. As a part of this initiative, Miller has led the AARC in developing a partnership with HOSA, a national organization which supports and promotes middle school, high school and some college students in healthcare career development.
Over the past year, Miller, with a team of AARC volunteers, developed the first respiratory therapy competitions for HOSA, which students across the U.S. competed in at the HOSA International Leadership Conference (ILC) in Houston, Texas this past summer. Miller joined the AARC team in a three-day marketing event at the ILC in Houston, helping to recruit future respiratory therapists, share about the profession, judge competition events, and award the first respiratory therapy scholarships.
In this inaugural year, over 40 students competed nationally in respiratory therapy, a culmination of collaborative work to grow the respiratory therapy workforce by connecting early with these health science focused students.
