In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service, MGA faculty, staff, and students volunteered with Backpack Buddies Ministries of Forest Hills Church, packing over 600 bags for hungry children in local schools.
"For 14 years at Backpack Buddies Ministries of Forest Hills Church in Macon, volunteers have packed meals ahead of every weekend and holiday for students facing food insecurity.
"It began with just one school and nine children, according to the Coordinator Brenda Lambert; now, it's grown to support 29 schools across three counties providing meals to nearly 2,900 students."
13WMAZ visited the facility and highlighted the Knights' volunteer mission.
"'The whole point of this is not about feeling good, it's about making sure that you know our community is taken care of and that you know make sure that families are being fed,' Geronimo Patterson, a freshman at MGA, said. 'That's why we're here today.'"
