USG Board of Regents Approves First AI Degree Program

The University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents approved the system’s first artificial intelligence-focused (AI) baccalaureate program on Tuesday, February 11. Beginning in fall 2025, Middle Georgia State University will begin offering the Bachelor of Science in Applied Artificial Intelligence on the University’s Warner Robins Campus.

Dr. David Jenks, MGA provost, said the “first-of-its-kind undergraduate program” emphasizes hands-on, interdisciplinary learning and will prepare students for immediate workforce entry in a rapidly evolving industry.

“This strategic degree directly aligns with the University System’s broader objective to develop a robust pipeline of AI professionals,” he said, “It’s designed to ensure that graduates are equipped to progress within the system and contribute directly to Georgia's economic development as we continue to be the best state to do business.”
