MGA Day of Service - March 28

MGA's 7th annual Day of Service, originally scheduled for September 27, has been rescheduled to Friday, March 28. This day provides an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to positively impact our local communities and practice our institutional values of stewardship, engagement, adaptability, and learning. Each student, department, or club can choose a service opportunity, receive a free shirt, and enjoy a fulfilling day of community service.

Below, Knights will find just a few of the fun and meaningful service opportunities available. Knights can also register here to choose their area of service.

Highlighted Service Opportunities

Kazoo Volunteer: Join us as a volunteer steward for the Guinness World Record attempt for the largest kazoo ensemble on March 28 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Macon Atrium Health Amphitheater. Stewards will oversee groups of 50 participants, ensuring the record attempt goes smoothly. Volunteers must arrive three hours early for a briefing and are essential to meeting the required number of stewards for the event. Note: Volunteers will not be playing the kazoo. Help us make history and claim the world record from the UK!

Backpack Buddies: Volunteer with Backpack Buddies on March 28 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Forest Hills Church to help pack after-school meals for children in need. Limited to 15 volunteers.

Campus Facilities: Volunteer with Campus Facilities on March 28 starting at 9 a.m. to assist with various tasks, including painting parking lines and cleaning Adirondak chairs. Location: Macon and Cochran campuses.

GA Canine Rescue: Volunteer with GA Canine Rescue on March 28 at 10 a.m. to assist with laundry, housekeeping, and cleaning animal cages. Some students will also interact with the animals, providing social time, while other duties may be assigned as needed. Location: Cochran.

Atlanta Community Food Bank (Online Opportunity): Join the Atlanta Community Food Bank online on March 28 at 10 a.m. to explore the link between hunger and health. Learn how food insecurity impacts families' access to nutritious food and their health in both the short and long term. We will discuss the cycle of hunger and health and how we are working to improve access to nutritious food for our neighbors.

Andersonville Living History Reenactment: Volunteer for the Living History Reenactment at Andersonville on March 29. Volunteers will portray Union prisoners, arriving any date between March 24 and March 28 to be outfitted and reporting at 8:30 a.m. on March 29. No prior knowledge of the site's history is required. Volunteers will march into the stockade, experience daily activities of Civil War prisoners, and participate in ration issuing, with a veteran reenactor demonstrating the process. Lunch will be provided. This reenactment helps visitors understand the historical significance of Andersonville.
