Knights softball was in Blue Mountain, Mississippi on March 22 as they finished up their conference weekend road trip. The Knights were looking to get another sweep as they faced the Toppers.
The Knights put Emily Proctor back in the circle for her third straight start and they gave her run support before her first pitch as they scored three runs in the first inning on an RBI single by Alexis Cosgrove and a two-run single by Grace Avery. The Toppers scored one run in the second inning but the Knights answered back in the third on a double steal to take a 4-1 lead. The Knights added two more runs in the fifth inning on a Mel Bullock two-run home run and Proctor did the rest. The Knights got the 6-1 win with Proctor giving up four hits and striking out nine batters.
The second game of the series had a different look to it than the first one. The Toppers scored two runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Knights cut the lead in half in the third inning with an RBI double from Gabbie Haas but the Toppers scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning to pull ahead 6-1. The Knights got the offense going late in the game as they scored three runs in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Madison Cosgrove and a two-run single by Mel Bullock as they close the gap to 6-4. The offense kept rolling in the seventh inning as Madison Cosgrove hit a two-run double to tie the game and Kaylee Oliver hit an RBI single to give the Knights a 7-6 lead. The Knights shut the Toppers down the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game.
The Knights will return home as they get ready for their next conference series on Thursday, March 27, as they host the 21st-ranked Rams of the University of Mobile. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. EDT.
