Knights Sweep Barons | Softball

Knights softball hit the road on Saturday, March 15, as they traveled to Mount Vernon, Georgia to take on the Barons of Brewton-Parker College. The Knights were sitting on top of the SSAC standings and looking to remain there at the end of the day.

The Knights got on the scoreboard first in the second inning with a bases loaded walk from Madisyn Riggins. The Knights scored another run in the third inning on a wild pitch and a throwing error that gave them the 2-0 lead. The Barons tied the game in the bottom half of the inning but the Knights regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning after a wild pitch and a Madison Cosgrove RBI double. The Knights extended their lead in the fifth inning, scoring on an error and a sacrifice fly by Riggins. The Barons scored one run in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth inning as they attempted a comeback but the Knights stopped them to get the 6-4 win.

The second game of the day moved much faster than the first as the pitcher's for both teams handled their business. The offense for the Knights awakened in the sixth inning as Alexis Cosgrove drew the bases loaded walk to put the Knights up 1-0. The Knights added some insurance runs in the seventh inning with a two-run single from Madison Cosgrove to take a 3-0 lead. The Knights completed the shutout in the seventh inning to win 3-0. Sarah Latham pitched the shutout, allowing five hits and walking one batter.
