IT Students Showcase Innovative Final Projects

MGA’s Department of Information Technology proudly highlighted the achievements of students in Tina Ashford’s Introduction to Information Technology (ITEC 2215) class, where they presented their final team projects. Focused on recommending technology solutions across diverse industries, these projects reflect months of research, collaboration, and creative problem-solving.

Working in small teams, students selected fields of personal and professional interest, conducted detailed investigations into hardware, software, communication methods, social media strategies, and cybersecurity considerations, and, ultimately, designed hypothetical businesses to apply their findings.

This semester’s projects tackled a wide range of contemporary challenges, including:

  • Emergency Drone Deployment for National and State Parks: Aimed at improving disaster response and search-and-rescue operations through strategic drone networks.
  • Mushroom Cultivation Technologies: Exploring sustainable agriculture with smart farming solutions tailored for specialty mushroom production.
  • Cybersecurity Product Development: Designing cutting-edge protection tools for small businesses and individuals facing increasing digital threats.
  • Gamification Services for Public Schools: Leveraging game-based learning techniques to enhance student engagement and educational outcomes.

Each project required teams to recommend specific hardware, applications, and communication tools, while also addressing social media utilization and security needs. The students’ work was grounded in scholarly research, with references drawn from GALILEO and industry-leading sources. At least two teams are already taking the steps needed to bring their ideas to life beyond the classroom.

Professor Ashford commended the class for their dedication, creativity, and professionalism.

"It’s inspiring to see students not only apply classroom concepts to real-world scenarios but also innovate with solutions that address current and future societal needs," she noted.

Congratulations to the ITEC 2215 students for their impressive contributions to the future of technology!
