Knights softball headed to Thomasville, Ga., on Friday, April 11, to take on the Nighthawks of Thomas University. It was a battle of the top two teams in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) with the Knights having an opportunity to lock up at least a share of the regular season title.
The Knights got things started in the first inning with a single by Carmen Phillips and a stolen base that gave Madison Cosgrove an RBI double to put the Knights up 1-0. The Nighthawks tied the game in the bottom of the second inning but the Knights answered back in the third inning with a solo home run from Cosgrove. The Knights put the game away in the fourth inning with a lead off double by Alexis Cosgrove and a fielder's choice from Madisyn Riggins set up Jenna Kirkland to lay down the sacrifice bunt. An RBI single by Gabbie Haas put the Knights up 4-1 and a Kaylee Oliver two-run single finished off the scoring for the Knights as they grabbed a 6-1 lead. The lead would be more than enough for Emily Proctor as she notched another win, throwing a complete game and striking out six batters.
The Knights started off the second game with another RBI double from Madison Cosgrove but the Nighthawks were able to push three runs across in the bottom half of the inning and the Knights trailed 3-1. The Knights took the lead in the fourth inning after an RBI single from Mel Bullock, a sacrifice fly by Gabbie Haas, and a bases loaded walk put the Knights up 4-3. The Knights added to their lead in the fifth inning with a two-run double from Caroline Albritton to go ahead 6-3. The Nighthawks scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game at 6-6 but the Knights came up clutch in the sixth inning with an RBI double from Grace Avery and a two-run double from Alexis Cosgrove put them up 9-6. The pitching for the Knights held the Nighthawks scoreless over the final two innings and the Knights came away with another sweep.
The Knights extended their winning streak, clinching the 2025 SSAC Softball Regular Season Championship and locking in the 1-seed at the SSAC Tournament. They will be back in action at home on Thursday, April 17, when they host the Skyhawks of Point University. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. EDT.
