MGA, FFA Students Plant Trees for Arbor Day

MGA hosted nearly 800 Future Farmers of America (FFA) students as they volunteered to assist wih beautification efforts across campus gardens April 23-26. This marks the fifth consecutive year FFA has generously donated their time and talents to support the University.

On Wednesday, April 23, and Thursday, April 24, MGA teamed up with the student volunteers to celebrate Arbor Day. University Plant Operations staff members added a shady lane Compton oak and an American dream swamp white oak to Macon Campus gardens while providing a demonstration for FFA students on proper tree planting techniques.

WGXA provided coverage of the celebration.

"'FFA is so much bigger than just animals or farming or just the educational side of it,' said Stephens. 'There is a giving back to the community side, agriculture is such an important industry, and by being able to do the work first hand and see how much work really goes into this, they can really give back to the community and see how important it is.'"
