Knights softball was back at Knights Field on Friday, April 18, as they hosted the Fillies of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The Knights were coming in hot having won their last 19 games while the Fillies were coming off of a split series against Brewton-Parker.
The Knights stayed hot as they scored three runs in the first inning on a three-run home run by Madison Cosgrove. The game was put out of hand in the second inning after the Knights scored 11 runs with RBI singles by Carmen Phillips, Mel Bullock, Alexis Cosgrove, and Gabbie Haas, a two-run single by Kaylee Oliver, a three-run double by Madison Cosgrove, and a solo home run by Bullock, as the Knights had a 14-0 lead after two innings of play. The Knights gave up a run in the fourth inning, but answered back in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single by Whitney Lee, a two-run double by Grace Avery, and a fielder's choice that scored a run to give the Knights the 18-1 win.
The Knights looked to keep the bats firing in the second game of the series, as an RBI single in the first inning by Madison Cosgrove put the Knights ahead 1-0. The Knights extended their lead in the second inning with a solo home run from Mel Bullock and added another run in the third inning with an RBI single by Madison Cosgrove. The bats went quiet, but the Fillies were unable to string their offense together as the Knights held on for the 3-0 win. Emily Proctor earned her 20th win of the season, giving up seven hits and striking out eight batters.
The Knights winning streak reaches 21 games after the sweep. They will put it on the line on Thursday, April 24, as they travel to Lawrenceville, Ga. to take on the eighth-ranked Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett College. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. EDT.
