Knights softball was back on their home field on Saturday, April 26, for the final time of the 2025 season - and Senior Day - as they hosted the Barons of Brewton-Parker College. The Knights were riding a 21-game winning streak while the Barons were looking to get an upset win before heading to the conference tournament.
The Knights kept their hot start going with one run in the first inning after a triple by Carmen Phillips led to a sacrifice fly from Grace Avery. The game moved quickly with both pitchers keeping each team in check. The Knights were the first to break the pitcher's duel with two runs in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Caroline Albritton as they pulled ahead 3-0. The Barons answered back with two runs in the fifth inning to make it a 3-2 game, but they were unable to bring in the tying run as the Knights held on for the win. Emily Proctor went the complete game allowing seven hits and striking out five batters for her 21st win of the season, setting a new program record for wins in a single season.
The second game of the series was all about the offense with the Barons scoring one run in the first inning. The Knights came back in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single from Grace Avery and an error that led to another run scoring to put the Knights up 2-1. The Barons scored five runs in the second inning, but the Knights had an answer with five runs of their own with a bases loaded walk, a bases loaded hit by pitch, and a three-run single by Madison Cosgrove as they reclaimed the lead. The Knights kept the offense going in the third inning with a three-run home run from Mel Bullock to take a 10-6 lead. After giving up a run in the fifth inning, the Knights came back in the bottom half of the inning with two runs on a bases loaded hit by pitch and a wild pitch as they grabbed a 12-7 lead and won the game by the same score. Sarah Latham earned the win with 5.1 innings of work out of the bullpen.
The Knights finish the regular season with a record of 34-8 (25-1 SSAC) and earn the 1-seed heading into the 2025 SSAC Softball Tournament, held at Wilson Morgan Softball Complex in Decatur, Alabama. They will play the winner of the 8-seed/9-seed game on Thursday, May 1, at 2 p.m. CDT.
