Knights Sweep Eagles, Extend Winning Streak | Softball

Knights softball was on the road on Saturday, March 29, as they traveled to Montgomery, Ala. to take on the Eagles of Faulkner University. The Knights were riding a nine game winning streak and looking to keep rolling.

The Knights got off to a hot start with three runs in the first inning on an error, a double steal, and a Mel Bullock sacrifice fly. The Knights extended their lead in the third inning with an RBI double by Kaylee Oliver and a sacrifice fly by Grace Avery to take a 5-0 lead. The Eagles scored a run in the bottom half of the third inning but the Knights answered back in the fourth inning with a run after Madisyn Riggins stole home on a delayed steal. The Knights put the game away in the sixth inning with a two-run single by Madison Cosgrove that gave them the 8-2 lead and they won the game by the same score. Madison Cosgrove went 3-for-4 at the plate.

The second game of the day was a closer contest as the Eagles scored first in the third inning. The Knights tied the game in the fourth inning after a Carmen Phillips walk and Madison Cosgrove hit by pitch set up Grace Avery for the RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. The game was not tied for long as the Knights scored again in the fifth inning on an error by the Eagles to take a 2-1 lead. The Knights had the lead until the Eagles scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 2-2 and send the game into extra innings. In the ninth inning, the Knights scored on an error to take a 3-2 lead and they held onto the lead to win the game. Grace Avery went 3-for-4 at the plate.

The Knights will return home as they prepare for the Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett College on Wednesday, April 2. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. EDT.
