Middle Georgia State University Police and Risk Management have earned re-certification as a StormReady University, extending its designation through 2029. MGA was first certified in 2021 and continues to demonstrate its commitment to severe weather preparedness and campus safety.
StormReady is a national program that helps communities, universities, military bases, and other organizations improve their readiness for all types of extreme weather, from tornadoes to winter storms. The program emphasizes advanced planning, public education, and awareness to help save lives during hazardous weather events.
To maintain StormReady status, MGA has met rigorous criteria, including establishing a 24-hour warning point and emergency operations center, maintaining multiple ways to receive and share severe weather warnings, monitoring local weather conditions, promoting public readiness through seminars, and developing a comprehensive hazardous weather plan that includes training spotters and conducting emergency exercises.
Through this re-certification, MGA continues to prioritize the safety of its students, faculty, and staff, while serving as a model for proactive weather preparedness in higher education.
