Middle Georgia State University is proud to celebrate Dr. Michael Stewart, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, who was named the recipient of the Student Affairs Champion Award at the 2nd Annual CAL-SA Recognition Awards in March 2026.

The CAL-SA (Council of Academic Leaders in Student Affairs) Recognition Awards are coordinated by Vice Presidents of Student Affairs across the University System of Georgia and recognize outstanding contributions from student affairs professionals and partners throughout the state. Nominations are submitted from institutions across the system and span several categories, including Outstanding Graduate Student, Outstanding New Professional, Outstanding Mid-Level Professional, Student Affairs Champion, Outstanding Administrative Support, Unsung Hero, Star Student Leader, Outstanding Program or Initiative, and Star Campus Partner.

This year’s awards process was highly competitive, with 70 nominations submitted from 17 of the system’s 25 institutions. Middle Georgia State University contributed four nominations, reflecting the strength and impact of its Student Affairs team.

An Awards Review Committee—comprised of four Vice Presidents for Student Affairs and a representative from the University System of Georgia—carefully evaluated each nomination. Dr. Stewart was selected unanimously for the Student Affairs Champion Award, a distinction that underscores his exceptional leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to student success.
