Student Research at American Chemical Society Meeting 2026

Several students from the Department of Natural Sciences recently represented Middle Georgia State University at the American Chemical Society (ACS) meeting in Atlanta. Autumn Thornton and Caleb Senters, from Dr. Renat Khatmullin’s lab, presented their research on chemiluminescent reactions. Their work involves synthesizing "green," environmentally safe chemicals to create artificial glowsticks—a project they are currently developing into a new experiment for the Organic Chemistry 2 Lab course.

Additionally, Leann Saura presented a research poster on her work in computational chemistry alongside Dr. Upendra Adhikari. Dr. Stella Nuckels and student Isabelle Burch also attended the conference to engage with the latest scientific developments (and enjoyed some time with the event's therapy puppies). These presentations highlight the ongoing commitment to undergraduate research and innovation within the MGA chemistry program.
