CMGS, ORSP Host Grant Prospecting Lunch and Learn Event in Cochran

The Center for Middle Georgia Studies (CMGS) and the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP) collaborated to host a Grant Prospecting Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, October 21, in Cochran. The workshop brought together nonprofit, government, and education leaders from Cochran and surrounding communities to explore strategies and resources for identifying funding opportunities.

Dr. Tyler Achatz, Director of Grants and Sponsored Projects, and Dr. Monica Miller, Associate Professor of English and Coordinator of Graduate Writing Programs, led the session. The presenters shared practical guidance for individuals and organizations seeking funding to support their work.

Dr. Achatz introduced participants to online resources for researching funding opportunities, including Grants.gov and Research.gov, and discussed how these tools can help organizations identify grants aligned with their missions and projects. Dr. Miller provided an overview of the grant life cycle, from prospecting and application development through reporting and closeout, emphasizing the importance of aligning project goals with long-term sustainability.

The workshop reflects the Center for Middle Georgia Studies’ growing efforts in nonprofit capacity building and, more broadly, MGA’s ongoing commitment to connecting university expertise with the needs of organizations throughout the region, contributing to a stronger, more connected Middle Georgia.
